Ministry of Information and Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports have partnered to produce and broadcast Distance Learning and E-Learning programmes, a move to provide equal education services to students amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) and Ministry of Information on the Preparation, Production and Broadcasting of Distance Learning and E-Learning Programmes was signed here on April 8 at MoEYS.

Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith and Minister of MoEYS H.E. Hang Chuon Naron were the signatories.

The partnership is to provide the Distance Learning and E-Learning programmes to students via a new channel of the state-owned National Television of Kampuchea (TVK), and the Ministry of Information’s smartphone-based App.

It is aimed at promoting access to education services with equity, quality and effectiveness to students at all levels across the country during this early school vocation period through distance learning and at enhancing the preparation and implementation of e-learning system.

Under the partnership, the MoEYS will be responsible for digital contents and appropriate teaching methods, while the Ministry of Information for production and broadcasting means.

On the occasion, H.E. Khieu Kanharith also handed over 10 Satellite DTV Dishes, donated by the Cambodian DTV Network Limited to the MoEYS.

According to the education minister, since the early school vacation began in mid-March due to COVID-19 issue, about 200,000 students or some 20 percent of the nearly 3 million students at all education levels have registered for online learning.
