Cambodia and Australia have convened a meeting to discuss about climate change issues.
The meeting took place recently through a videoconference with the participation of H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment, Mr. James Larsen, Climate Coordinator and H.E. Pablo Kang, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia.
The meeting focused mainly on the perspectives of Cambodia and Australia for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference.
Mr. James Larsen briefed H.E. Say Samal that Australia has so far provided supports to countries along Mekong River including Cambodia on water management and environmental education.
In the 26th Conference, Australia will support Britain to organise a face-to-face meeting to facilitate direct discussion among all member states, continued the climate coordinator.
Australia also initiated a discussion on hydro power supply in the upcoming conference to contribute to reducing gas emission to zero by 2050.
From his end, H.E. Say Samal underlined continuing effort of the Royal Government of Cambodia in environmental management, tackling of climate change and national economic development.
He also asked the Australian side to establish a centre for information sharing on hydrogen energy through engagement with concerned ministries, research institutions of Cambodia and Australia, and to formulate a roadmap for economic collaboration between the two countries.
